Industrial Hygienist—Scientist

Wasatch Environmental is seeking an industrial hygienist or scientist to join our team in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wasatch Environmental is engaged in a variety of environmental projects including Industrial Hygiene, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments; subsurface investigations with soil, groundwater, and soil gas sampling; groundwater monitoring; regulatory compliance and support; remedy selection, design, and implementation; and remediation system operation and maintenance.

The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of our Senior Project Environmental Scientist and be expected to learn quickly and take on increasing levels of responsibility and independence as their career at Wasatch Environmental progresses.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to a diverse client base in a variety of industries
  • Conduct industrial hygiene and indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments
  • Evaluate compliance with regulatory agencies including, but not limited to, OSHA and US EPA
  • Generate technical reports
  • Communicate effectively with clients and coworkers

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum—bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene or physical science
  • At least five years’ industrial hygiene experience
  • Solid understanding of occupational health and safety principles and practices
  • Excellent written, oral, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to understand laboratory data
  • Ability to work individually or in a team
  • Asbestos Inspector certification (contractor supervisor or project designer a plus)
  • Knowledge of OSHA General Industry and Construction standards
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds and pass annual medical and respirator fit test exams
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
  • Willing to work in challenging physical environments
  • Willing to work some after hours or weekends (10 percent)
  • Ability to travel for work (about 20 percent travel time)
  • Excellent computer skills (proficient using Word and Excel; the ability to use Corel Draw is preferred)
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check
